Club History
In 1993, Kevin Frazier and Jerry Smith organized two teams -- U12 Girls and
U12 Boys, respectively. There were 33 players on those two teams. The teams
played 3 weekends in October and participated in a regional tournament.
In 1994 the Club was officially formed. It was incorporated as a not for
profit. The initial meeting was held on July 17, 1994. That fall, the Club had
74 players on 5 teams - U10 Boys, U12 Boys, U12 Girls, U14 Boys and U14
Girls.
In 1995 the Club continued to grow. There were 100 players on 7 teams. 2 U10
Boys teams, U11 Boys, U12 Boys, U12 Girls, U14 Boys and U14 Girls.
In 1996 the Club sponsored its first Spring Recreation Program. 335 players
played at Union Street. The fall program continued to grow. There were 126
players on 9 teams. 3 U10 Boys teams, U11 Boys, U12 Boys, U12 Girls, U13 Boys,
U14 Boys and U14 Girls.
In 1997 the Club's spring program exploded to 525 players. The program was
held a Union street. The Fall Travel program had 116 players on 8 teams. 2 U10
Boys, U11 Boys, U12 Boys, U12 Girls, U13 Boys, U14 Boys and U14 Girls.
In 1998 the Spring Program had 350 players and was held at the Cohen School.
The Union Street #2 field was being renovated necessitating the move to Cohen.
The Fall travel program started growing again with 136 players on 10 teams. U10
Girls, 3 U10 Boys teams, 2 U11 Boys teams, U12 Boys, U12 Girls, U14 Boys and U14
Girls.
In 1999 the Spring Program moved to the Down East School with 375 players.
The #2 Union Street field was still being rebuilt. The fall travel program grew
to 165 players and 12 teams. U10 Girls, 4 U10 Boys teams (2 teams were true U9
teams, but played a U10 schedule), 2 U11 Boys, U12 Boys, U12 Girls, U13 Boys,
U14 Boys and U14 Girls.
In 2000 the Spring program had 354 players at Down East School. The Fall
Program grew to 174 players and 13 teams. U10 Girls, 4 U10 Boys teams, 2 U11
Boys, U11 Girls, U12 Boys, U12 Girls, U13 Boys, U14 Boys and U14 Girls. The Club
hired Gary Walker and Susan Day to coach U14 Boys and U14 Girls respectively.
The U11 Girls were Northern District Champions and State runners-up. The Club
established their web site - bangorsoccerclub.org.
In 2001 the Spring Program returned to Union Street with 462 players behind
the strength of aggressive "advertising". The Fall travel program had 178
players on 13 teams. 2 U10 Girls teams, 3 U10 Boys teams, 2 U11 Boys, U11 Girls,
U12 Boys, U12 Girls, U13 Boys, U14 Boys and U14 Girls. The U14 Boys were
champions at the Falmouth Fall Classic. The U14 Girls and U13 Boys each advanced
to the championship round. The Frazier U11 Boys were Northern District Champions
and the Ross U11 Boys were runners up after a sudden death penalty kick
shoot-out. The U13 Girls were Northern District Champions and State runners-up.
The Club initiated "Club Practice" on weekday evenings at Bass Park. Gary Walker
provided coaching assistance.
In 2002 the Spring Program continued to have strong participation with 501
players at Union Street. The Spring Program went "Clean Clothes" with the
t-shirts for the first time. The Fall program had a very strong year with 188
players on 14 teams. For the first time, the Club fielded teams in each age
group. 2 U10 Girls teams, 3 U10 Boys teams, 2 U11 Boys, U11 Girls, U12 Boys, U12
Girls, U13 Boys, U13 Girls, U14 Boys and U14 Girls. The Fall Program changed
uniforms in favor of a more up to date style. The new fall uniforms also met
"Clean Clothes" guidelines. The U13 Girls and U14 Girls advanced to the
championship round at the Falmouth Fall Classic. The Club began sponsoring a
Track Camp at the Cohen School with 50 participants. Mark Lech, assistant track
and field coach for UMO, provided the coaching expertise.
In 2003, the Spring Program had 491 participants at Union Street. The Spring
Program upgraded to full soccer uniforms for the participants (jersey, shorts
and socks) and team pictures were added. The Fall travel program had 181
participants on 13 teams - 2 U10 Girls teams, 2 U10 Boys teams, 2 U11 Boys, U11
Girls, U12 Boys, U12 Girls, U13 Boys, U13 Girls, U14 Boys and U14 Girls. The U12
Boys and U13 Boys won the Northern Districts Championships. The U12 Boys
advanced to the finals of the Challenge Cup (state tournament). Track camp
continued at Cohen with 42 participants.
In 2004, the Spring Program had 523 participants at Union Street. There were
52 teams. The Fall travel program had 172 participants on 12 teams - 2 U10 Girls
teams, 2 U10 Boys teams, U11 Boys, U11 Girls, U12 Boys, U12 Girls, U13 Boys, U13
Girls, U14 Boys and U14 Girls. The U13 Boys and U14 Boys won the Northern
District Championships. The U14 Boys were state runners-up in the Challenge Cup.
The U13 Girls advanced to the semi-finals at the Falmouth Tournament. Track camp
continue with 45 participants.
In 2005 the Spring Program had 509 participants on 56 teams. Games were at
the Union Street athletic complex.
